The Civil Services Examination (CSE) is one of the most prestigious exams conducted by UPSC to recruit candidates for various Group A and Group B services, including IAS, IPS, IFS, and others.
Eligibility Criteria
1. Nationality:
• For IAS and IPS: Must be a citizen of India.
• For other services: Citizen of India, Nepal, Bhutan, or as specified in the detailed notification.
2. Age Limit (as of 1st August 2025):
• Minimum: 21 years
• Maximum: 32 years (General Category)
• Age relaxations for SC/ST/OBC and other categories as per government rules.
3. Educational Qualification:
• A degree from a recognized university or an equivalent qualification.
4. Number of Attempts:
• General: 6 attempts
• OBC: 9 attempts
• SC/ST: Unlimited (until the age limit)
Application Process
1. Registration:
• Candidates must first complete the One Time Registration (OTR) on the UPSC website: upsconline.gov.in.
• OTR is required only once and can be updated as per the timeline provided.
2. Online Application Form:
• After OTR, candidates can directly fill out the Civil Services Examination application form.
• Ensure all details are accurate before submission.
3. Modification Facility:
• OTR Profile: Changes allowed only once within seven days after the application window closes.
• Application Form: Corrections allowed between 12th February 2025 and 18th February 2025.

Selection Process
The Civil Services Examination consists of three stages:
1. Preliminary Examination:
• Objective type questions (MCQs).
• Two papers: General Studies (Paper I) and CSAT (Paper II).
• Paper II is qualifying in nature (33% minimum marks required).
2. Main Examination:
• Written exam with essay-type questions.
• Nine papers, including two qualifying language papers.
3. Interview/Personality Test:
• Conducted for candidates qualifying the Main Examination.
