Overview
Online applications are invited from eligible and desirous candidates for engagement of Act Apprentices under the Apprentices Act, 1961 for training at various Divisions/Units/Workshops over Northern Railway. Training in Railway does not confer any right to absorption after completion. It is not obligatory for the employer to offer employment, nor for the apprentice to accept employment upon completion.
Vacancies & reservation
- Total apprentices: 4116
- Distribution: Trade-wise and Division/Workshop-wise, with reservation for SC/ST/OBC, and seats for PwBDs/Ex-servicemen, as furnished in Annexure “A”.
- Variations: The number of apprentices may increase/decrease or be cancelled as per administrative requirements.
Eligibility criteria
- Nationality: Indian citizen.
- Educational qualification: As prescribed trade-wise in Annexure “A” (generally 10th pass and ITI in relevant trade from NCVT/SCVT-recognized institute; check each trade requirement).
- Age limit: As per Apprentices Act/notification (verify cut-off and relaxations in the detailed instructions/Annexure).
- Medical fitness: Must meet fitness standards applicable to apprentices in Railway establishments; certificate will be required at engagement.
- Reservation claims: Valid certificates for SC/ST/OBC/EWS/PwBD/ESM in prescribed Government formats are mandatory to avail benefits.
Selection & merit preparation
- Merit basis: Merit lists prepared as per rules notified (commonly on marks in qualifying exams—10th/ITI—trade-wise and unit-wise). Check detailed method in Annexure/portal.
- No written exam/interview: Engagement typically based on merit and document verification.
- Tie-breaks & preferences: As per RRC Northern Railway rules; verify in detailed instructions.
- Merit list display: Expected February 2026 on the official website.

Step-by-step guide
- Read notification: Review eligibility, Annexure “A” trade matrix, and all instructions.
- Register: Create an account with accurate personal details (name and date of birth must match Matriculation certificate).
- Fill form: Enter education and ITI details exactly as per certificates.
- Select preferences: Choose Division/Workshop and Trade(s) per Annexure “A”.
- Upload documents: Photo, signature, certificates in prescribed format/size.
- Review & submit: Verify details thoroughly; submit and save/print acknowledgment.
- Monitor updates: Keep your registered email and mobile active; check website for merit list and instructions.
Documents required
- Photograph: Recent color passport-size, as per portal specifications.
- Signature: Clear, in black/blue ink, per size guidelines.
- Matriculation certificate & marksheet: Proof of date of birth and qualification.
- ITI certificate & marksheets: NCVT/SCVT recognized; trade-specific.
- Category certificates: SC/ST/OBC-NCL/EWS; PwBD/ESM where applicable, in GoI formats.
- Identity proof: Aadhaar or other accepted ID; ensure name/DOB consistency.
- Medical certificate: As per Railway apprentice standards (at engagement stage).

- No job guarantee: Training does not confer right to Railway employment.
